CELEBRATING WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH
The IEEE Special Interest Group on Humanitarian Technology (SIGHT) is an IEEE program, instituted by the IEEE HAC. IEEE SIGHT is a global network of groups consisting of IEEE members and volunteers who identify and address local problems by applying their technical skills and partnering with their local communities.
In 2011, the SIGHT program was conceptualized and inaugurated in Kerala, India. Ten years later, we have many reasons to celebrate the outstanding work accomplished by SIGHT volunteers. IEEE SIGHT Day 2021 will be held on Wednesday 28 April, to foster a spirit of community for the global SIGHT network, increase awareness of IEEE SIGHT within IEEE, promote the opportunity to support SIGHT financially, and celebrate the impact SIGHT volunteers and groups are making.
To celebrate the occasion of IEEE Sight Day 2021, IEEE BUET Student Branch in collaboration with IEEE Bangladesh Section and IEEE SIGHT group FLASH of Bangladesh Section is arranging a talk session. We are honored to have Ms. Pia Torres as the speaker for the session.
Ms. Torres is a member of the IEEE SIGHT Steering Committee. She is an Electronics Engineer, from Exact Sciences and Technology Faculty, Tucumán National University in Argentina. She specializes in project management, process optimization, digital transformation, and innovation in several industries: oil & gas, nuclear, food & beverage, energy, IT, etc. Ms. Torres is a social entrepreneur (Roboteam, Initiative founder and program manager), a UN SDG Promotor, and a diversity and inclusion ambassador of STEM Education. She has been an active IEEE volunteer since 2001 and she has been involved in numerous IEEE committees and has received many prestigious awards for her contribution.
We will also have the chairperson of IEEE BUET Student Branch WIE Affinity Group, Mumtahina Islam Sukanya as a speaker in the session. She will share her experience as the winner of “Women to Women Empowerment Challenge (W2WEC) 2019 – A humanitarian Technology based social entrepreneurship program”.
