1st Choice Position Statement: considering IEEE Bangladesh Section (max 500 Words)
Objectives of the Submission:
• To arrange for more transparent, effective and user friendly financial services for the Conferences and major events organized by the IEEE Bangladesh Sections and its subsidiary Organizing Units (Branches, Chapters, AGs etc.)
• To ensure better participation of all the Organizing Units, wish to give emphasis on more representative distribution of section’s financial supports to most deserving units.
Experiences of the Candidate:
The aspirant for the position of Treasurer, IEEE BDS ExCom 2020, Yeasir Arafat, is currently with the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh in the position of an Associate Professor. He has 18 years of teaching experience in the area of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. His research areas are Renewable Energy and Semiconductor Devices. He has published around 36 research papers in these fields. He first became student member of IEEE as early as 1995 (one of the pioneering members of Bangladesh Section) but later after a long period, he has recently been very active since 2010 and serving in the Executive Committees of IEEE Bangladesh Section and IEEE ED/SSCS Joint Chapter of Bangladesh. He was IEEE Bangladesh Section Executive Committee’s Membership Development Coordinator (2014), Secretary (2015), Vice Chair (Activity, 2016), Treasurer in 2017 and also serving the IEEE BDS Executive Committee in the position of Vice Chair (Activity) for the last two consecutive years (2018-19). In IEEE ED/SSCS Joint Chapter, he has served as MD coordinator and at present’s he is BUET Students’ Chapters Advisor (for the last two consecutive years).
He has vast experiences with electrical services for buildings and constructions. He has served as the Member of Bangladesh Electricity Licensing Board (statutory position), Government of Bangladesh from 2011-2018. At present, he is the General Secretary of Electrical Safety Forum, Bangladesh. He has financial, administrative and technical experiences related to international conferences and some hundreds of IEEE events.
