1st Choice Position Statement (500 Words)
I am Raihan Ur Rashid, at present Publicity Coordinator of IEEE Bangladesh Section. I have completed my Bachelor of Science in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). Currently I am doing Masters in Business Administration from Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka.
During my tenure as an executive committee member of IEEE Bangladesh Section, I got the chance to closely work with 38 student branches, affinity groups and different societies for different purposes. These give me the motivation to further serve this section as Secretary in 2018.
I have found Secretary is a very crucial position in a section who is responsible to make a bridge between the section with the student branches, affinity groups and technical societies. As the secretary of this large vibrant section in 2019, my first duty will be to increase the focus on technical research and humanitarian activities. I will give my focus on strengthening the research efforts and combining industry and academia research collaboration. I will ensure that all the possible resources of IEEE and IEEE Bangladesh Section is provided to the research oriented people.
As the secretary of this section, I will also focus on increasing the visibility of the activities and the researches in not only local level, but global level also. With my experience as the Publicity Coordinator of IEEE Bangladesh Section, I will work to redesign and modernize the Section website.
As the secretary of this section, I am planning to modernize the existing IEEE Bangladesh Section office to make it a Digital Audio-Video Communication Center so that Web-conference, Webinar and Online live workshops can be organized from there.
With my experience as a member of Humanitarian Activities Committee of IEEE Bangladesh Section in 2017, I am planning to continue the works of IEEE global and IEEE Bangladesh Section’s humanitarian objectives.

I’m a proactive volunteer in IEEE since 2016. I’ve served as an executive committee member of IEEE Bangladesh Section in 2018 and lead the Publicity Committee of the section as Chair. I have served as the Webmaster and member of Humanitarian Activities Committee of IEEE Bangladesh Section in 2017. I have served as Webmaster and a member of Executive Committee of IEEE BUET Student Branch in 2016 and lead the Membership Development Sub-committee of the IEEE BUET Student Branch as Head. During my tenure as the head of Membership Development Sub-committee, membership of IEEE BUET Student Branch rose from 60 to 300+.
I have worked as one of the Design and Web Administrators of 4th IEEE international Women in Engineering (WIE) Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering 2018 (IEEE WIECON-ECE 2018). I worked as a Website and Social Media Chair in IEEE WIE International Leadership Summit (ILS) 2018, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Besides, I also lead the design team in WIE-ILS 2018.
In 5th IEEE Region 10 Humanitarian Technology Conference 2017 (R10 HTC 2017), I served as a part of organizing committee. I was also a part of the organizing team of IEEE International Humanitarian Project Competition 2017.
As an IEEE Industry Applications Society member, I was part of the organizing team of first ever IEEE Bangladesh Section IAS Summit 2018. As an IEEE Society on Social Implications of Technology member, I volunteered in organizing IEEE SSIT Bangladesh Chapter Workshop on Humanitarian Technology & Sustainable Development.
I am currently working in IEEE Humanitarian Activities Committee funded project “Bringing Life Back to the Rohingya, An IEEE HAC Concern” where we are working on providing safe drinking water to the displaced Rohingya population.
Contribution to IEEE Bangladesh Section (500 words)
As the Publicity Coordinator of IEEE Bangladesh Section and the chair of IEEE Bangladesh Section Publicity Committee, I worked to make sure that the section website “ieee.org.bd” is regularly updated and active. In addition, I worked to make IEEE Bangladesh Section active and visible in social media. IEEE Bangladesh Section’s Facebook page, which was previously dormant, become highly dynamic and potent.
I also lead a team of energetic volunteers in my publicity team, which was responsible for all the banners, posters, flyers and other designs over the year. My team also worked hard to make sure that all the reporting of the section events were done in professional manners.
In IEEE WIE ILS, I lead the team, which was responsible for all the designs: banners, posters, program books, schedule books etc. Also as a Website and Social Media Chair, I developed the website of IEEE WIE ILS from pre-uploaded WordPress theme.
As an IEEE Industry Applications Society member, I was part of the organizing team of first ever IEEE Bangladesh Section IAS Summit 2018 where I lead a team of 12 volunteers to make the Summit successful. As an IEEE Society on Social Implications of Technology member, I volunteered in organizing IEEE SSIT Bangladesh Chapter Workshop on Humanitarian Technology & Sustainable Development.
As a part of the team responsible for IEEE Humanitarian Activities Committee funded project “Bringing Life Back to the Rohingya, An IEEE HAC Concern”, I visited Camp Number 5 of Kutpalong Rohingya Camp and Camp Number 8 of Balukhali Rohingya Camp with IEEE HAC Chair and IEEE SSIT President Paul M. Cunningham, Prof. Dr. Celia Shahnaz and Prof. Dr. Moshiul Hoque. I am also working in “Bringing Life Back to the Rohingya, An IEEE HAC Concern” where we are working on providing safe drinking water to displaced Rohingya population.
I was also one of the organizer of IEEE Bangladesh Section MiniPOCO 2018.
In 2017, the main focus of IEEE Bangladesh section was to create awareness and involve more and more students, young professional and people from academia with humanitarian technology. So, as the part of IEEE Bangladesh Section Humanitarian Activities Committee I had to take extensive responsibilities to carry the mission and vision of the section.
IEEE Bangladesh section received IEEE Humanitarian Activities Committee Fund – 2017 from IEEE Global Humanitarian Activities Committee to organize International Humanitarian Technology Project Competition during IEEE R10 HTC-17. This is the very first time IEEE Bangladesh section has organized an International Competition where 10 international teams along with 30 national teams have participated in the final. Besides four key note speakers have delivered their talks in this event. I was part of the organizing team of this Project Competition.
As a member of IEEE BDS HAC 2017, I was also involved in organizing Humanitarian Idea Contest 2017 and SS12: Project Competition and Maker Fair 2017 – Bangladesh Round.

With the knowledge and experience I can help IEEE BDS by Engaging and effectively serving the IEEE members Working as a gateway between BDS and all the University and Colleges Empowering members and promoting transparency I am committed to work with enthusiasm, vision and guidance, encouraging members and volunteers.

I started volunteering for IEEE while I was a PhD student, 8 years ago. I have been involved in a large spectrum of IEEE activities and worked as an EXCOM member of IEEE BDS for 3 years as SAC, HAC and Publicity Coordinator. Last year, I worked as a founding chair of IEEE Computer Society Bangladesh Chapter.
I have directly involved as various committee of IEEE Sponsored Conference. My volunteer service has given me a broad and deep experience in IEEE BDS.
I believe, my experience and competence to help BDS activities, engaging all SB and IEEE members to work together
